01The context
Currency Assist handles currency trades, offshore transfers, tax clearances and SARB approvals for individuals and companies, along with the regulatory checks that come with them. Its onboarding ran on paper forms and email, and its operations needed a platform built around the way clients, brokers and the dealing desk actually work.
02Our contribution
We built and maintain two web applications on CAMS, a Python and PostgreSQL backend on AWS that handles data, documents and process automation. The CAMS Portal is the self-service front door for clients, brokers, agents and Client Services: invitation-link onboarding with guided KYC and ZohoSign e-signature; corporate onboarding for private companies, trusts, late estates and foreign entities, with their directors, shareholders, beneficial owners and authorised persons, each verifying through their own secure link; trade instructions, beneficiaries and trade history; a broker and agent network where each agent sees only their own clients; and periodic re-verification, with Client Services approving every application before an account goes live. CAMS Dealer is the dealing desk’s console: live, cancelled and personal trades, market orders and a market watch with live rate tickers; incoming payment and SWIFT notifications to match funds to trades; a 360-degree view of every client; and trade, market-order and invoice reporting with dashboard charts.
03The result
Onboarding that took paper forms and emails now happens online, from the invitation link to KYC to e-signature. The dealing desk has real-time trades, payment notifications and management reporting in one place, on a platform that handles complex corporate structures, regulatory compliance, a broker and agent network, and integrations with e-signature and banking partners. Bluebird continues to build and maintain it.
